And how's that working out for you?  Your violent crime rate is higher than other states that have more lenient gun control laws!  Even deaths per 100,000 from firearms were higher in CA compared to TX in 2011!!

I haven't looked into it, but if you could stop drug and gang related killings the overall numbers would probably look much better.

Among Obama's proposed legislation is requiring criminal background checks for all gun sales, reinstating an assault weapons ban and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.

In California, it is currently illegal to own an assault weapon or a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, Ramsey said. Background checks for gun buyers are also in place.

"We're already ahead of the nation in that sense," he said. California already has fairly comprehensive gun laws, said Chico Police Lt. Mike O'Brien.
