6 Big Cities See Hiring Fade After Minimum Wage Hikes

From IBD:
Bay Area Job Blues Bay Area job growth in the leisure and hospitality sector slumped to a five-year low after San Francisco and Oakland adopted the highest citywide minimum wage in the country of $12.25 an hour last spring.

After rising close to 5% a year, leisure and hospitality industry hiring slowed to just 2.2% from a year ago in November in the Bay Area. Meanwhile, such employment rose 4.9% in the rest of California, where the minimum wage was generally $3.25 lower — before the $1 statewide hike to $10 on Jan. 1.

Oakland’s minimum wage got an inflation-related bump to $12.55 with the start of 2016, with San Francisco’s jumping to $13 in July.

The Bay Area data cover the entire San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward metro area, of which the two cities’ population is one-third.

L.A. Hotel Jobs Hit By $15.37 Wage

Los Angeles-area hotels saw job growth fizzle after the L.A. City Council mandated that hotels with at least 300 rooms start paying workers a minimum of $15.37 an hour, the highest minimum in the nation, starting last July. The same wage will apply to workers at 150-room locations this coming July.

After growing by 3% or more the prior three years, Los Angeles County accommodation industry employment fell by an average of 3%, or 1,300 jobs, vs. a year earlier in the first 10 months of 2015. Meanwhile, hotel and motel jobs in the rest of California saw steady growth. Preliminary November data show employment bounced back just above year-earlier levels.

Super Bowl stumbles into San Francisco's haves vs have-nots divide

This means that SF is forever lost to Socialists.

Tommi Avicolli Mecca, director of counseling for the Housing Rights Committee, said he hates seeing San Francisco, which is already facing a $100 million budget shortfall, spending an estimated $5 million in taxpayer dollars to host events leading up to next Sunday's Super Bowl.

"The administration doesn't care about the poor and working class people and is only concerned about giving the rich somewhere to have a party," Avicolli Mecca said, noting that San Francisco rents have become unaffordable for many middle class people and that homelessness is rampant.

Bob Linscheid, president and CEO of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged that affluence and poverty exist uncomfortably side-by-side in San Francisco, but said any blame cast on the Super Bowl is misplaced.

And it it lost on the Socialists WHY there is this wide gap between the "haves" and "have nots".  Who's been in control of SF?  Certainly not Capitalists and Conservatives!!

300 Scientists Want NOAA To Stop Hiding Its Global Warming Data

Daily Caller article:

“If we subtract the [old] data from the [new] data… we can see that that is exactly what NOAA did,” climate expert Bob Tisdale and meteorologist Anthony Watts wrote on the same science blog. “It’s the same story all over again; the adjustments go towards cooling the past and thus increasing the slope of temperature rise. Their intent and methods are so obvious they’re laughable.”

Never Bet Against the Capitalists

There are two articles out that should be read.  As much as I respect the people who run the oil industry in Saudi Arabia, there is one immutable fact:  It's mostly a state run conglomerate.  And as long as that continues, they will make the mistakes that all governments are the best at:

Underestimating the Capitalist.

The Telegraph has an amazing article on Frackers in the USA:
Mr Yergin said groups with deep pockets such as Blackstone and Carlyle will take over the infrastructure when the distressed assets are cheap enough, and bide their time until the oil cycle turns.

“The management may change and the companies may change but the resources will still be there,” he told the Daily Telegraph. The great unknown is how quickly the industry can revive once the global glut starts to clear - perhaps in the second half of the year - but it will clearly be much faster than for the conventional oil.

“It takes $10bn and five to ten years to launch a deep-water project. It takes $10m and just 20 days to drill for shale,” he said, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos. has an article that augments what is being said here:
What makes the current selloff and coming recovery different from previous market cycles is the advent of U.S. shale oil. The shale revolution has transformed oil market dynamics. It triggered the oil price collapse. It is now shaping the course of the recovery. It will eventually define the features of the energy landscape that will in due course emerge from the downturn.

But the factors that today incentivize producers to boost output at the expense of longer-term investment will inevitably undermine future production. The very rise of the shale oil industry, with its unique cost structure and short business cycle, undermines longer-term investment in high-cost conventional supply. The ability of the shale industry to ramp back production in a rebound is untested, however, and the market might find out when prices finally recover that its capacity has been durably degraded. In a best-case scenario, the market ought to brace itself for a period of heightened volatility, albeit perhaps in a relatively narrow band, if the shale oil industry manages to function as an effective swing producer. Alternatively, low prices today may set the stage for significant supply shortfalls tomorrow.

Covered California on Yelp: One star WORST WEBSITE EVER!

I sort of stumbled on this doing some searching on the internet.  As one poster asked, don't they know about Silicon Valley?

"HELL!  PURE HELL!!"  as one poster put it.

Some of the posts are quite long and detailed.  If there is one affect of the debacle it's that MANY of the posters are - or rather WERE - believers in a healthcare welfare system, but now have severe misgivings.

"Boo hoo Covered CA. I am disappointed, for I have been a long time advocate for Universal Health care. I feel so let down."

"Cool when it works but an absolute nightmare when it doesn't which is 90% of time. Very sad, considering I'm a progressive Democrat and really really really want this program to work. But it does not build confidence when you can't get anything done with this awful website."

"I was a supporter of Obamacare because I saw it as a stepping stone to a proper NHS.  Sadly, California has still been unwilling/unable to commit to proper information design."

"I voted for Obama and I argued with my family in favor of the ACA. What a fool I was. I hope this gets repealed."

One of the posters set up a website that chronicles their problems.  He posted a screenshot of the chat screen saying "Sometimes their chat will let you watch this for a couple of hours":

Then, this happened "And then, hours later it informs you":

Just amazing.

The final result of Leftists Paradise: Cincy locals fill truck with bottled water for Flint, Michigan

Yet another Leftist Basket case that Leftists, whose memories are deliberately short, that is being blamed on Republicans. The boggled.

Three young people decided to hold a bottled water drive at the Kroger on 8241 Vine Street to benefit residents of Flint, Michigan, many who are left without suitable drinking water.

A truck was parked outside the Hartwell Kroger to collect as much bottled water as it can hold. That water will be transported to Flint, the group told WCPO - 9 On Your Side.

At the Cincinnati event Saturday, those helping out said they wanted to help people out with the basic human need.

"Those people are at the hands of the people that govern them, and they've been let down," Hartwell resident Bill Denzer said.
In National Review:
Prior to and separate from the current water crisis, Flint was in a state of financial ruination. In one of the most liberal cities in the United States, Flint’s Democrat-dominated government did what Democrat-monopoly governments do in practically every city they control: It spent money as quickly as it could while at the same time carpet-bombing the tax base with inept municipal services, onerous regulations, high taxes, and the like.

As a result of this, a bankrupt Flint entered into a state of receivership, meaning that an emergency manager — or emergency financial manager, depending upon Michigan’s fluctuating fiscal-emergency law — was appointed by state authorities and given power to supersede local elected officials in some matters, especially financial ones. The contamination happened while Flint was under the authority of an emergency manager who, though a Democrat, had been appointed to the post by Michigan’s Republican governor, Rick Snyder. He was, in fact, the most recent in a long line of emergency managers, Flint having failed for years to emerge from its state of fiscal emergency.

So, in the end, the state of Flint is due to Union hubris and Democratic mismanagement.  And now it's Republicans' fault they fix an almost unfixable Democratic Hellhole?

In Walmart Store Closings, Texas Loses Out Far Worse Than California

Wow!  Nine are in Ca. Twenty nine in TX! That's going to hurt!

24/7 Wall St. has been covering Wal-Mart and covering wage and employment issues for years. With California and Texas each being massive economies with large populations, it turns out that the lower-cost base of Texas with lower wages and lower taxes is not protecting the state from losing stores versus California (nor versus elsewhere for that matter). Of the 154 U.S. closures, some 29 closures are in Texas alone - versus 9 closures in California.

Logic might have suggested that Walmart's consideration would be areas where it has higher wages and operating costs. After all, California real estate, wages and regulations are generally deemed to be less business friendly than Texas. And the pressure for that $15 per hour keeps coming from outside groups in many industries, and has a much better chance of being seen in California than it does in Texas. That turns out not to be the case here, at least not in raw numbers of store closures.
That isn't what logic says.  Logic includes stores with FLAT OR DECLINING SALES.  With frackers shutting down all over West Texas, Walmart sales are taking a hit. Dallas, Houston and Austin are where all the support personnel are located.  This isn't brain surgery.

My prediction:  Expect more Walmarts in CA to close as this recession moves on.

Growing number of police chiefs, sheriffs join call to arms

The lines are being drawn...

One California police chief is backing teachers in his district packing heat. Detroit Police Chief James Craig has been a leader in urging his community to arm itself. A Maryland sheriff is working with the state’s general assembly to try to make it easier for citizens to obtain handgun permits.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has told citizens they must be “that first line of defense,” according to Florida Today. Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair told the Tampa Tribune, “If you are certified to carry a gun, I would like to encourage you to do so.”

In Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is one of the more visible pro-gun faces.

“I want as many law-abiding citizens to arm themselves in this county as we can get so that I have the partner that I need to beat back this sort of violence,” Clarke said during an interview on “Hannity” last week.

Middle East market crash on eve of Iran Oil exports. Carnage begins...without a shot fired.

Well, maybe "without a shot fired" is a bit of exaggeration.  But it allows Iran to go to "war" with Saudi Arabia without having to declare war.

I don't think Iran has anything to lose.  But KSA has a LOT to lose.
All seven stock markets in the Gulf states tumbled as panic gripped traders. London shares are now braced for a second wave of crisis to hit when they open on Monday morning after contagion from China sent the FTSE 100 to its worst start in history last week.
And then Rouhani tweets this:

Yeah.  No direct threat like in terms of bombs and guns.  But a direct threat as in "we can't sell our oil at now!! Thanks to you!"

Either Saudi Arabia goes to war with Iran, or they hunker down for the "long winter" for this entire year.  This is going to hurt the KSA really, really bad.

The California Exodus continues. Latest U-Haul Index

I had hoped things had improved....but no.  Here's the latest:

San Francisco ==> San Antonio $1,806.00
San Antonio  ==> San Francisco $695.00

Los Angeles ==> San Antonio $1,448.00
San Antonio ==> Los Angeles $1,026.00

In relative terms, the LA to SA is a difference of ~40%. But in absolute terms it's only ~$400.

Obama Cites Communist China As The Goal For American Gun Control

What a wicked, wicked man.  Using Communist China as a shining example of gun control?

What.  An.  Idiot.
“Some of you may recall at the same time that Sandy Hook happened, a disturbed person in China took a knife and tried to kill, with a knife a bunch of children in China. But most of them survived because he didn’t have access to a powerful weapon,” Obama claimed. In one knife attack in China in 2012, a 36-year old man stabbed 22 kids and an 85-year old woman.

“We maybe can’t save everybody, but we could save some,” Obama said. “Just as we don’t prevent all traffic accidents but we take steps to try to reduce traffic accidents.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott responds to Obama’s threat of more gun control: ‘Come and take it’

Obama can't govern.  Obama can't lead.  All he knows is how to antagonize Americans.  What an utter, dismal failure of a President.

But he will go out, but not in a blaze of glory, but in an in-your-face hateful burst of revenge.

Abbott is a great governor.

Surgical Sex: Why We Stopped Doing Sex Change Operations

Excellent article about why Johns Hopkins ceased performing gender changing surgeries.  It was written in 2004.

I have witnessed a great deal of damage from sex-reassignment. The children transformed from their male constitution into female roles suffered prolonged distress and misery as they sensed their natural attitudes. Their parents usually lived with guilt over their decisions—second-guessing themselves and somewhat ashamed of the fabrication, both surgical and social, they had imposed on their sons. As for the adults who came to us claiming to have discovered their “true” sexual identity and to have heard about sex-change operations, we psychiatrists have been distracted from studying the causes and natures of their mental misdirections by preparing them for surgery and for a life in the other sex. We have wasted scientific and technical resources and damaged our professional credibility by collaborating with madness rather than trying to study, cure, and ultimately prevent it.

The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment

This is probably the most egregious sin of our government.  However, the issue is not that they've been hiding the methodology used - anyone can found out how they arrive at these numbers. The really big sin is that CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC news have glossed over this fact.  And they are accountable to no one.

There's no other way to say this. The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.

And it's a lie that has consequences, because the great American dream is to have a good job, and in recent years, America has failed to deliver that dream more than it has at any time in recent memory. A good job is an individual's primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity -- it establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen's talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream.

I hear all the time that "unemployment is greatly reduced, but the people aren't feeling it." When the media, talking heads, the White House and Wall Street start reporting the truth -- the percent of Americans in good jobs; jobs that are full time and real -- then we will quit wondering why Americans aren't "feeling" something that doesn't remotely reflect the reality in their lives. And we will also quit wondering what hollowed out the middle class.
His dream of the press reporting the real numbers will only come true when a Conservative is elected President.

Documentary: Chuck Norris Helped Open Communist Romania to West

This is pretty amazing!  Who would have thought???
The brave efforts of Zamfir and Nistor helped open up Romania to the west and end the soviet regime. According to The Daily Beast, the “media was more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Despite a few scares, the regime never attempted to shut down Zamfir’s smuggling or the private video parties. In fact, many members of the country’s Secret Service were bribed with tapes (their families were just as eager to watch Chuck Norris in Lone Wolf McQuade as everyone else). Even Ceausescu’s son was one of Zamfir’s clients.”
Chuck Norris karate kicked Communism to the moon!!
