Wolf whistling and sexist remarks could become hate crimes in London

You see?  Now non-verbal sounds can be "Hate Speech" in the UK.  How can the people of the UK stand for this?

Watch the next step to be "looking" at a woman to be hate speech.

Can we imagine the Police State stepping further in and controlling how you dress and where you go to combat "hate speech"?
The Metropolitan Police today revealed it is speaking with other UK forces to assess whether it is worth cracking down on gender-based hate crimes after a pilot scheme was launched in the East Midlands last year.

The trial, led by Nottinghamshire Police, saw sexist incidents like street harassment, verbal abuse and taking photos without consent recorded as hate crimes, carrying tougher penalties for offenders.

Police chiefs are now considering rolling out the idea elsewhere in the UK, suggesting a harsher stance on everyday sexism could stop it escalating into sexual harassment or assault.
I see the streets of London being filled with walking silence as Bobbies stand by to ensure you say nothing unless you be arrested for Hate Speech.

The UK is now Anti-Christian

I would now think twice about ever relocating to the UK.  Ban Franklin Graham over hate speech?  This is amazing.  The central theme of Christian doctrine is the everlasting love of Christ.  And now Graham is spewing hate speech?  This is sick, twisted and perverted.

I told you.  I told you that "Hate Speech" is an amorphous term and can change from day-to-day, minute-to-minute.  I suspect at some point, as most Leftist doctrine based on NOTHING can do, if you profess love for an individual you will be BLASTED for Hate Speech.

Welcome to the Post Christian Age.
British parliamentarians along with over 6,000 people have signed an online petition to ban world-famous American evangelist Franklin Graham from entry into the country because they say he has used “hate speech” against “Muslims and LGBT people.”

Graham is scheduled to speak in the U.K., in Blackpool, Sept. 2018.

The evangelist has taken a strong Biblical stance against homosexuality, calling it “a sin” and warning those engaging in homosexual acts about the judgment of God. He has called Christians to boycott businesses that promote the LGBT agenda. He criticized Disney earlier this year for its remake of Beauty and the Beast that promotes homosexuality. “They’re trying to push the LGBT agenda into the hearts and minds of your children,” he said. “Watch out!”
And get this:
News of the petition against Graham comes as the British government refuses to answer whether proclaiming the Christian faith in public could be a “hate crime.”

During a Question Period in the House of Lords regarding hate crime prosecution, Lord Pearson of Rannock asked the government to confirm that a Christian who states that “Jesus is the only Son of the one true God” cannot be arrested for it. Baroness Vere, representing the government, refused to comment.

Why is this even an issue to be debated?

Could we be soon to witness the mass migration of devout Christians from the UK for fear of being jailed...or worse?  This is CHILLING.  How could there ever be the situation a sentence like that could ever be penned?

The End Of Trannies

There!  I said it!  The use of the word "trannies" will end soon.

But...when I say Trannies, I mean the Dow Jones Transportation Average.  It is commonly referred to as "Trannies"

I'm just waiting for the Dow Jones to cave and be forced to change the name to something else like maybe,  The Dow Jones "Asset Mobility Average".

To me, it looks from here, the cultural battle in CA has been lost.  I have often pleaded that people should LEAVE CA NOW.  Not next month, not next week, not tomorrow.

The criminals and deranged are in such plentiful supply, they are amply available in the Leftist Cesspool of SF to populate a jury who see absolutely nothing wrong with a person - regardless of his race, brandishing a loaded weapon.  Normal and sane people see such an act as WRECKLESS and FOOLISH and deserving of a punishment that fits the crime of shooting someone to death.

From the

But just because Garcia Zarate was acquitted on all homicide and assault charges (the jury, which contained three immigrants, found him guilty only of illegal gun possession) doesn’t mean that all is well for illegal alien criminals in the Golden Sanctuary State. The people we should really be concerned for now, according to former San Francisco Supervisor David Campos, are illegal aliens themselves. “I’m afraid the immigrant community is going to be made to pay for something that the jury decided appears to be a very tragic accident,” said Campos, now chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party. Trump and pro-enforcement forces would react to the verdict by “ramping up their rhetoric.”True to form, a sitting San Francisco supervisor turned the case into a gun control matter. “I always thought this is not an immigration issue, as Trump made it out to be— this is a gun management issue,” said Sandra Lee Fewer. “A car is not a safe and secure place to keep a gun, knowing the amount of car break-ins we have in San Francisco.” Now why might San Francisco have so many car break-ins? Because of California’s Proposition 47, which forbids prison sentences for most thefts, and which has led to a sharp increase in property crimes. But Supervisor Fewer treats car thefts as a fact of nature—like illegal immigration—that society has no power to quell.

California’s once-unrivalled status as the country’s most educated state has long since disintegrated under the waves of low-skilled, low-social-capital Mexican and Central American immigrants. Now, California's K-12 system rivals Mississippi and Alabama as an education backwater. The state’s school-age population, now majority Hispanic, lacks competitive linguistic and math skills. (Of course, defense counsel conducted part of their post-verdict press conference in Spanish, oblivious to the symbolism.) California is becoming another Brazil, divided between fabulously wealthy elites hunkered down in their own coastal sanctuaries, and a poor, Third World population. Before the rest of the country ends up in the same situation, the immigration policies that gave rise to the Steinle homicide must change. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been conducting a largely unheralded effort to end sanctuary jurisdictions, but the illegal-alien lawyer’s lobby has fought him at every turn.
So, the real question now is:  WILL YOU BE NEXT TO DIE AT THE HANDS OF LAWLESS CA??

VIDEO: Student radio hosts yanked from air, suspended after using the word ‘tranny’

This is what I call the "Hate Speech Dejour".  Say the wrong word that is considered Hate Speech and now they want you arrested.

“Hey guys, I am just going to have you leave. You said a couple words that break FCC violations,” the manager says, according to the video, which appears to be lightly edited for time. “And so for today I am going to have you stop your show. Specifically tranny. That is a hate slur it is not allowed on radio. I need you to leave.” As she says these words, a campus police officer stands in the background, the video shows.

“Did you really have to call the police?” the students ask.

“Yes,” she responds.

“It’s a violation, you are breaking the law,” she continued. “I just need to enter a report. …” it turns out, THERE IS NO SUCH LAW.

'It's insane': Ont. patient told she'd have to wait 4.5 years to see neurologist

Yes, it's insane.  Because it continues to say that government controlled healthcare creates scarcity.
An Ontario doctor says health-care wait times have reached “insane” lengths in the province, as one of her patients faces a 4.5-year wait to see a neurologist.

When Dr. Joy Hataley, a family practice anesthetist in Kingston, Ont., recently tried to send a patient to a neurologist at the Kingston General Hospital, she received a letter from the specialist’s office telling her that the current wait time for new patient referrals is 4.5 years. The letter said that, if the delay is “unacceptable” to Dr. Hataley, she should instead refer the patient to a neurologist in Ottawa or Toronto.

Are the Amish right about new technology?

Back in the 80s Mother Jones (or Earth?  I don't quite remember) ran a similar article about the Amish.  Many Amish back then had refrigerators powered by propane. But the main thing was their extreme (if it's even possible) adherence to Community.  It wasn't that all modern technology was shunned.  IT was that the acceptance of technology was thought out and methodical.

It's good to see that not a lot has changed.

“Amish lives are anything but anti-technological,” he writes. Visiting Amish communities, he found battery-powered radios, computer-controlled milling machines, solar panels, chemical fertilisers and GM crops. What distinguishes the Amish stance toward any given invention isn’t that they reject it outright; it’s that they start by assuming they don’t want or need it, then adopt it only if they decide it’s in line with their values.
Generally, these days, “our default is set to say ‘yes’ to new things,” Kelly notes, whereas for the Amish “the default is set to ‘no’”. Thus cars don’t make the cut, because they encourage people to wander far away, instead of building community close to home. But laptops and smartphones are fine, for some Amish, in certain workplace contexts – though never at home – because the benefits are deemed to outweigh the downsides.
Then and now, I've always thought there was something we could learn from them.

Ah!  I found the article online!  Just remember, this article was written in 1989:
The Amish are the answer to a question, I realized...
What was the question? Ah, that's what I still had to figure out.
Still, their home isn't as stark as it may sound. It holds many modern conveniences: a propane (and therefore wonderfully silent) refrigerator, white-gas reading lights, indoor plumbing with hot and cold running water—even a basement washing machine powered by a small Honda lawn-mower engine. ("The women love the little Hondas," Amos said. "They're so easy to start.") So the family has many basic conveniences normally provided by electricity.

Likewise, when they want to make a phone call, they can walk down the road to a shared neighborhood phone (kept in a locked homebuilt booth). If they need to get somewhere a good distance away, they can hire a car and driver to take them there.

More students, young Americans turn to paganism

Who couldn't see this coming?

As millennials continue to leave traditional Christian religions, interest in Wiccan and pagan practices have seen increased interest in recent years, a trend also spotted among young people and on college campuses.

Pagan or Wiccan student groups are present on a number of college campuses — both secular and religious — across the nation. The growing normalization of such practices, albeit still a minority, corresponds with the decline in Christian believers, some observers note.

A recent report in Market Watch headlined “Why millennials are ditching religion for witchcraft and astrology” argues as much, for example.
All you have to do is go to the Bible and see what it says.  For instance, Jesus said:
Matthew 12:43-45 New International Version (NIV) 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
I've always thought there might be a bigger context to this (which Jesus points out).  For instance, if a whole COUNTRY whose roots were strongly Christian should reject Christ's teachings, what would happen?  Evil, which was summarily "kicked" out of say, America, would return to the "house" it left.  And bring his friends along.

We see this played out here and in other former strong Christian countries that have or are rejecting Christ.  And we find the country is now worse that before the establishment of Christianity there.

This situation concerns me and makes me wonder how long and how bad will it get.

Let's say you just caught your spouse in a compromising situation.  You leave him or her and decide, in your worst of worst times, to write him/her a scathing letter on Google Docs.  Maybe you even got a little extreme in what you might do to get back.

Within an hour of hitting "save" there's a knock on your door.

It's the police.  They received a notice from Google that you were planning a possible terrorist act.  Of course, you planned no such thing. Did Google "see" you googling how to make a bomb?  Were you searching for theaters where firearms were banned?

As the police snap the metal bracelets on your wrists they inform you that you were writing out your plans on Google Docs.

Sound like fantasy?  THINK AGAIN.
In response to some of these reports [of being locked out of Google Docs], a Google employee tweeted that the team handling Google Docs was looking into the matter. Later Tuesday, Google said in a statement that it had "made a code push that incorrectly flagged a small percentage of Google Docs as abusive, which caused those documents to be automatically blocked. A fix is in place and all users should have full access to their docs."

Although the error appeared to be a technical glitch, the fact that Google is capable of identifying "bad" Google Docs at all is a reminder: Much of what you upload, receive or type to Google is monitored.
That's why I never use Google Docs.  What I type is none of their business.  And what you say CAN be used against you even if none of it is true.

Gerald jerked his body around and up - such it is when your sort of lying on your side...but yet almost angled with your front pointed sort of "up", I guess.

He didn't dare inhale.  The gum would most certainly get sucked into a lung or something.

He felt pretty stupid. It was 30 years ago when he learned his first lesson.  He was lying, shoulders and back pressed against the floor of the oval living room rug.  A TV commercial had just snapped on and his eyes wandered from the black and white TV to the ceiling.  5 year olds didn't particularly enjoy the pathetic interruptions commercials made in the flow of a cartoon.

He had a nickel in his mouth.  And within 0.0001 seconds....

Gerald swallowed it.

Well, maybe saying he "swallowed it" was too loose a phrase.  It wasn't as if he gulped it down like a pill. No.  It was more like his tongue relaxed and swoosh!  down to the gullet the nickel went.

But this time...this time 30 years later - it was gum.  And 30 years of honing his reflexes (not like he trained everyday for this very day) he untwisted his body sat up and ... saved his life.

Step 3. KILL THEM: Canada now investigates 'climate denial'

So you will now be chased to the ends of the earth if you think thoughts or express beliefs that differ from The State.

Step one:  You will be fined
Step Two:  You will be jailed
Step Three:  You will be killed

If you don't think this will happen, you are living in a fantasy world  This is what we have become. When will we have to seek refuge in Asia to escape the sick pathetic disaster that is steamrolling our way?
As someone who has written extensively on climate change for a decade, my view is that all of this is madness. We are entering into dangerous territory, a fundamental attack on free speech.

If we’re going to use agencies of the federal government to investigate and even prosecute “climate deniers”, for making “false and misleading claims” then let’s damn well do the same for “climate alarmists”, who do the same thing all the time.

I read and hear politicians making “false and misleading claims” about climate change almost daily, particularly with regard to what federal and provincial carbon pricing schemes will actually accomplish, as opposed to what our governments are claiming they will accomplish.

But the way to decide these issues is through public debate, not running to an agency of the federal government to shut up people we disagree with, particularly a government that itself makes false and misleading claims about man-made climate change all the time.
The State is the biggest liar of all.  And we want them to judge our ideas and thoughts?

All this begs the question: What Anti-State thoughts will they go after next?

Target Alarms Hand Baskets in Response to Increased Theft Following Plastic Bag Ban

This isn't a recent article.  But, I've posted articles on some of the consequences of plastic bag bans. Now people are stealing the little hand baskets.

The retailer has recently put black alarms on its plastic carry-alls for small items and customers can no longer take them outside of the store.

On my regular post-gym Target run, I was told the move was made because the hand baskets have been disappearing since California's plastic bag ban went into effect.

The alarms are designed to sound off at the store's doorway, just like those sensors often attached to clothes to stop shoplifting.

Others in the biz of helping you pick up what you need also say entirely too many people who don't want to buy bags, and aren't bringing along their own, are picking up their hand baskets and keeping them.

The lost and wandering SPLC

I started reading this article and was completely aghast.  A city is considered a "refuge of hate"?

Why?  How?

And this is the part that completely blew me away:
The town had previously contested the claim, but the SPLC had stood by its marking the Amanas on the "hate map." Why? The organization claimed "it had confirmation that a group of individuals met sometime in September 2016 at a restaurant in the Amanas."

You read that right.  They ate at a restaurant and BAM! the city is hate-filled.

And what does this really say about the SPLC?

This sort of action says they are an insignificant, lost, irrelevant organization which has completely lost its perspective on what true hate is.

First Grader Sent to Office, Investigated, for ‘Pronoun Mishap’

If this is what the future looks like, it means we're on the road to the end of Free Speech in the USA.

England said the first grader was investigated by the principal to determine whether or not she had bullied the transgender child by calling him by his original name. After about an hour it was determined the little girl made an honest mistake and she was not punished or reprimanded.

But she was terribly traumatized by the incident, England said.

“The daughter came home from school upset and crying — saying, ‘Mommy, I got in trouble at school today,’” England told me.

The little girl’s mother, who asked not to be identified, immediately contacted the school to find out what had happened.

“She was told that whenever there is a pronoun mishap with this biological boy who now claims to be a girl — the school must investigate,” England said.

Capitol Resource Institute provided me with a letter the mother wrote — expressing her extreme concern over how the situation was handled.

“I stressed over and over with the principal that I am all for protecting the rights of (the transgender child), but my children have rights as well,” the parent wrote. “It makes me sad that my daughter felt like she was punished for trying to be kind to the kid.”

Google, other tech companies warned over ‘dangerous’ banning of neo-Nazis, hate groups

Yes, this could easily happen.  But what the article doesn't cover is what would the backlash be if Google, GoDaddy and others are successful in wiping out completely the presence of any 'hate group"?  What do you think the backlash would look like?

I can tell you.  The"hate groups" will decide that if THEY can't get access to the Internet to express their ideas, then NO ONE CAN.

But the Electronic Frontier Foundation is warning of the dangers of censoring speech, no matter how horrendous or offensive.

“All fair-minded people must stand against the hateful violence and aggression that seems to be growing across our country,” the San Francisco-based online advocacy group said in a blog post Thursday. “But we must also recognize that on the Internet, any tactic used now to silence neo-Nazis will soon be used against others, including people whose opinions we agree with.”
For example, the EFF mentioned that some people want to label Black Lives Matter as a hate group, and that the NAACP has been a target since the Civil Rights era.

Many of the tech CEOs who have taken action in the wake of the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, have explained their moves.

Even as San Francisco-based Cloudflare’s CEO stripped the Daily Stormer of its security services this week, Matthew Prince acknowledged he had made an arbitrary decision and said “no one should have that power.”
Yes.  That's why these companies should fall under the same regulation as phone companies do.  T-Mobile, ATT and others can not stop "hate speech" from being sent over phone lines.  They also can not be sued for allowing, say, ISIS to conspire against the Federal Government.  Or maybe even drug deals that happen over the phone.

This sort of law needs to be used to cover internet providers and companies like Godaddy and google.

Otherwise, the internet will become unusable.

Made in America* -- How the U.S. auto industry was built with foreign labor

Absolutely despicable.  Why are out elected leaders allowing this to happen? Why aren't we protesting and rioting against this?

And it hasn't stopped!!
At the apartment complex, we observed the laborers as they gathered in the parking lot on their way to work around 6:30am. We observed the van take the workers to the BMW plant where they stayed for ten hours.

At Volvo, near Charleston, a new plant is being built thanks to $200 million dollars in tax incentives and subsidies. There, we observed white vans packed with Polish workers being shuttled from the worksite to nearby apartment complexes. A man from Poland told CBS News producers that he was working at Volvo's paint shop where he said he was making five to six times more than what he would make in his native country.

At Mercedes in Alabama, we found dozens of Eastern European workers, and some Americans, entering the construction project just before dawn.

Experimental protein reactors produce basic food from carbon dioxide and electricity

I guess you can't call it Soylent Green.  Well, it's not green....

The protein’s greatest selling point is in its ingredients.

Sunlight. And carbon dioxide.

“In practice, all the raw materials are available from the air,” Pitk√§nen says. “In the future, the (solar powered) technology can be transported to, for instance, deserts and other areas facing famine. One possible alternative is a home reactor, a type of domestic appliance that the consumer can use to produce the needed protein.”

The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates

I always thought this was a bunch of hooey.  Surely, an antibiotic can't go bad so quickly.  But, what really was my basis for saying that.  Now, we can.
The box of prescription drugs had been forgotten in a back closet of a retail pharmacy for so long that some of the pills predated the 1969 moon landing. Most were 30 to 40 years past their expiration dates — possibly toxic, probably worthless.

But to Lee Cantrell, who helps run the California Poison Control System, the cache was an opportunity to answer an enduring question about the actual shelf life of drugs: Could these drugs from the bell-bottom era still be potent?

Cantrell called Roy Gerona, a University of California, San Francisco, researcher who specializes in analyzing chemicals. Gerona had grown up in the Philippines and had seen people recover from sickness by taking expired drugs with no apparent ill effects.

“This was very cool,” Gerona says. “Who gets the chance of analyzing drugs that have been in storage for more than 30 years?”

Mandatory composting? Gavin Newsom isn’t shying away from his liberal record

And he says all of this like he's proud of it!  With a smile!  Yes, let's make composting mandatory statewide!  Why the hell not?

“I was the guy who brought you the plastic bag ban in San Francisco,” the former mayor told the graying Roseville audience gathered in a community center 100 miles outside his progressive city.

“You thought gay marriage was controversial,” Newsom added to sustained laughter, “we required composting in San Francisco. That was controversial. They had garbage police out there checking in my cans to make sure the egg shells were in the appropriate bin.”

In the foothills of the Sierra, and at a stop last week in Salida, just outside of Modesto, the Democratic front-runner whose national profile was born out of his decision to distribute marriage licenses to same-sex couples offered the clearest indication yet that the tenets of his gubernatorial campaign are rooted in his liberal record.

Newsom said he gets a kick out of watching Republicans – and some Democrats – contorting themselves “like pretzels” over health care. He favors a government-run program covering everyone.

“At the end of the day, with all due respect, the only way we are going to have high-quality, universal health care that’s affordable, or at least approximates affordability, is Medicare for all,” he said. “Don’t people get this? The deeper question, though, is: Can we do it in California? And, legitimately, that’s an open-ended question. It just is.”
"...with all due respect.."  Oh yeah?

What a liar.  He has no respect that you might be able to make decisions without the forced assistance of government.  He doesn't care what you think.  He only cares about what he thinks.  You , on the other hand are a WORM to him.

I hope he wins.  We need CA to get ground into the dirt quicker so CA'ians can come to their sense faster.

January 28, 2014 Christianity Today, January/February, 2014 The following article is located at: bruary/world-missionaries-made.html COVER STORY The Surprising Discovery About Those Colonialist, Proselytizing Missionaries

Interesting essay about the Democratic influence of Protestant missionaries all over the word.
Fourteen years ago, Woodberry was a graduate studen t in sociology at the University of North Carolina– Chapel Hill (UNC). The son of J. Dudley Woodberry, a professor of Islamic studies and now a dean emeritus at Fuller Theological Semi nary, started studying in UNC's respected PhD program with one of its most influential figures, Christian Smith (now at the University of Notre Dame).

But as Woodberry cast about for a fruitful line of research of his own, he grew discontented.
"Most of the research I studied was about American religion," he says of early graduate school. "It wasn't [my] passion, and it didn't feel like a calling, something I could pour my life into ."
One afternoon he attended a required lecture that brought his vocational drift to a sudden end. The lecture was by Kenneth A. Bollen, a UNC–Chapel Hill professor and one of the leading experts on measuring and tracking the spread of global democracy. Bollen remarked that he kept finding a significant statistical link between democracy and Protestantism. Someone needed to study the reason for the link, he said.

Woodberry sat forward in his seat and thought, That's me. I'm the one.
Soon he found himself descending into the UNC–Chape l Hill archives in search of old data on religion. "I found an atlas [from 1925] of every missionary station in the world, with tons of data," says Woodberry with glee. He found data on the "number of schools, teachers, printing presses, hospitals, and doctors, and it referred in turn to earlier atlases. I thought, Wow, this is so huge. This is amazing. This is why God made me. "

Anti-Christian Persecution is Gaining Strength in Ireland and Great Britain

If you've never seen any of the churches in the UK you really need to go.  They are something to behold.  We went to Ely and visited church there.  It's also home to the boy's choir that does music for several movies - notably The Snowman.

But, just like in the rest of Europe, church attendance has been taking a nose dive.  And how long before this turns into hostility to Christianity?  And then turns into violence and death against Christians?

Well, it has to start as something.  And this is it:

While conservative Catholics have long had much to complain about in terms of the poor standards of religious formation in Catholic schools, there is now a strong media campaign against laws decried as ‘discriminatory’ which, in reality, help protect the ethos of such schools, even where much of the damage to this ethos has already been done and has been self-inflicted — a Catholic school for girls in Dublin, for example, recently, decided to remove the cross from its insignia lest it would cause offence.

This campaign is in parallel with moves to divest Catholic schools and transfer ownership to groups with a secular ideology.

The message is clear, in Ireland and in Britain, alike, the persecution of the Christian faith has just been ratcheted up a notch. Christianity, no matter what form it takes, has now become unacceptable to the political and media establishments.

Does this represent a scorched earth policy by the forces of secularism to pre-empt even the possibility of the return of an overwhelmingly faith-filled “Catholic Ireland” or “Dowry of Mary,” for example? It would certainly seem so.

In any case, after several years of seeing people of faith not bringing their religious beliefs to the table of public policy, and being put to the top of the class for their tolerance, it now appears that not just the publicly expressed beliefs of Christians but Christians themselves, “domesticated” or otherwise, are no longer welcome at that table either.
Do you think those that HATE Christians are happy to start there?  This will "ratchet" up to include, jail, torture and death of Believers.

It always does.

Anti-Christian California

One of the ingredients to being a Far Left Rabid Idiot is to hate Christianity.  And CA is no exception:
I didn’t want leave without pay. I didn’t want leave with pay. I just wanted to leave. The liberal academy is a place full of secular activists channeling their own unhappiness into interminable hostilities against whichever conservative Christian they can find within a three-mile radius. I had served for eight years under a dean trained in Women’s Studies, surrounded in her executive suite by lesbians and feminists, who hated me for celebrating the beauty and glory of chastity and Biblical love. I could not have my relationship with Jesus Christ and this job simultaneously. The choice was not that difficult.
The author of this was a professor in California who was gay, but chaste.  What an honorable man!

Christian persecution is alive and well in CA.

Where are the workers?

The large bulk carrier left the Shanghai port several days ago.  The orders were put in weeks and months before and all the full containers were loaded by automatic systems that the Chinese put in place.  While being loaded and well before leaving the harbor, a massive group of drones, like a swarm of bees, flew around them scanning each and every one of them, scanning the bar charts to ensure that all containers were accounted for and ready to be loaded.  As each one is checked, the information was wirelessly fed into the massive container ships onboard computer and matched with the roster.  Whenever there is a mismatch, the missing container is scratched off the list and added to the roster for the next container ship.  The shipping date information for the missing containers is automatically updated and the information sent to the recipient as to the revised expected day of arrival at the California port.

The destination, Long Beach California, had already been pre-programmed into the container ship.  The onboard ship computers then confirmed the plotted course and immediately sent the course plan to a Port Central Control Unit for confirmation and permission to set sail.  The pilotless tug boats were automatically summoned to assist the pilotless container ship.  From there, the tugs entered the area and like a sea faring ballet moved into position around the gigantic container ship, slowly nudging it into position to start its journey across the Pacific.  Updated weather data allowed the computers to update the path slightly to steer clear of a storm brewing, having the monster ship head slightly north toward Fukuoka, Japan.

Once clear of the impending storm, the ship heads out to open waters and makes its way to the USA.  The trip takes about 21 days.

California has strict rules in place for ships to avoid various areas and to keep speeds below a certain amount.  All rules, which are complex in some areas off the California coast were already preprogrammed and the ship handles the environmentally sensitive areas flawlessly.

By now, the container ship has already notified the Ship-To-Shore surveillance computer system that it has arrived and is awaiting permission to enter the harbor and drop anchor for unloading.  A signal from the STS computer alerts the tugboat system and identifies what boats will be available to assist the Chinese megaship to enter the harbor and be positioned for unloading.  This data is sent to the container ship along with an estimated wait time.  Today is a very busy day and the ship must wait offshore for another day or two.  This information is sent to the Roster and arrival dates of the goods on board the ship are sent to the final destinations, updating the shipping dates for each bulk container.

Finally, the Chinese seafaring ship is alerted that the tugboats are on their way. And again, like when the ship left Shanghai, the tugboats automatically and almost lovingly nudge the huge vessel into the berth. Once secured, the Chinese ship asks for permission to be unloaded.  Permission is granted (PG).

The PG signal alerts the loading booms and cranes to get in place to start unloading the bulk containers.   Again, massive clouds of drones hover to scan container bar codes as they are automatically removed.  Many of the containers are equipped with RFIDS that make the scanning faster.   The onshore computer checks the ship’s manifest against information sent earlier before the ship embarked to ensure that what left Shanghai, made it to Long Beach.  The drones also, using cameras, scan the condition of each of the bulk containers checking to make sure there is no damage.  Damaged containers are set aside as rejects and subsequently loaded back on the ship once unloading is complete.  Delivery information is automatically updated to show that the customer’s orders were canceled or delayed and will be resent if requested.  The inventory of goods within the damaged container is sent to the Chinese supplier alerting them that their orders were not delivered due to damage.  Before the day is out, a new container back in China will have already been filled and sent to the Shanghai port for delivery to California.

Back in Long Beach, the older loading system had been modified to load containers directly onto a series of flat bed rail cars.  Each set of trains delivers the containers to positions outside the Port Authority Area to be automatically transferred to waiting trucks for delivery to various distribution points.

Each truck receives a bulk container, the 40 ft container is scanned by a drone, and the coordinates for the intended distribution center is fed into the truck’s automatic piloting system.

The truck departs, in this case for a Target Store Distribution Center located northwest of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  This is the dead of winter and roads are treacherous.  The auto-piloted truck is alerted to icy and snowy conditions at various points along the route.  The truck contacts the distribution center with updated delivery time information.   The truck reroutes its path to head south through Phoenix, Tuscon, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Wichita, and finally Cedar Rapids, missing 90% of the snowy, icy weather.

Three days later, the truck arrives at the distribution center and backs into an empty bay.

A state-of-the art Yaskawa Motoman robotic system moves forward and scans the container bar code and confirms that the goods have arrived at the correct distribution center.  The Motoman opens the container and enters, methodically unloading the products onto an integrated roller conveyor system.  The boxes move past a scanner system that checks the goods against the list it has in memory to ensure that these are the correct goods ordered.  Stationary scanners inspects the items from all angles to ensure there is no damage.

Another Motoman lifts the goods from the roller conveyor and deposits them on a Kiva system that then takes the goods to the correct rack for storage to await ordering from the Target Stores.  The whole unloading process is complete in a matter of minutes.

A “stock replenish” signal is received from a nearby Target store that the distribution center supplies.
Bulk amounts of the stocked items are gathered and again handled by the Yaskawa Motoman system used for loading the delivery truck.  The truck leaves the bay and its auto-pilot system guides the truck to the receiving dock at the store which is only 90 minutes away.  Another Yaskawa Motoman system unloads the truck, turning over the goods to the Kiva system to stock the back room.

An order by an individual at the Cedar Rapids Target had already been placed for one of the goods.  He used his iPhone Target App to order, then purchase the item using Apple Pay.  There are no cashiers.  There are no registers.  There is no need for any.

The individual waits at the receiving area as the Kiva system retrieves the item from the stock.  Once delivered to the individual, the transaction is complete.

Welcome to the future.

Be Very Worried About The Future Of Free Expression

I find the future frightening.  Are we really headed into a time where something you might say about the government in a flippant manner could land you into jail in the USA?  Or worse, a gulag?

I don't know what we can say or what we can do to stanch what is slowly happening. I recall when the whole "hate speech" thing started.  Once you've started, where the hell does it stop?

The answer is it doesn't stop.  And it will steam roll its way forward taking down every thing that is PERCEIVED as hate speech.  And then each day, the definition of Hate Speech will morph into something that will put even more limits as to what you say and where you say it.

For instance, will there be a time when we will be banned from saying things that will be defined as Hate Speech on the internet?  What would cause it to be banned?  Why everyone in the world can read what's on the internet.  Any post or comment you might make can be read by someone in India, Russia, or Saudi Arabia.

Say something offensive of  Muslims?    Say something offensive of Indians? BLOCK IT.  Maybe you'll be given a warning the first time.  A hefty fine the second time.  And finally jail time?  Re-education camp?  Torture?

Death?  Could we see a time where Hate Speech will be regarded as a high crime worse than capital murder?

Things like this already happen in some countries.  Could we see a time where, say, I say something offensive of the King of Thailand (a crime in Thailand) and be extradited to Thailand to be tried and convicted of Hate Speech against the country?

The reason why there is no limit on what we can call hate speech is because EVERYTHING WE SAY IS HATE SPEECH.  Anything I might say is probably hated by someone or many someones throughout the world.

So, anyway, here is the article:
If it’s not Big Yogurt, it’s Big Oil or Big Somethingorother. Democrats have for years campaigned to overturn the First Amendment and ban political speech because of “fairness.” This position and its justifications all run on the very same ideological fuel. Believe it or not, though, allowing the state to ban documentaries is a bigger threat to the First Amendment than Donald Trump’s tweets mocking CNN.

It’s about authoritarians like Laura Beth Nielsen, a professor of sociology at Northwestern University and research professor at the American Bar Foundation, who argues in favor of censorship in a major newspaper like Los Angeles Times. She claims that hate speech should be banned because it has “been linked to cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, and requires complex coping strategies.” Nearly every censor in the history of mankind has argued that speech should be curbed to balance out some harmful consequence. And nearly every censor in history, sooner or later, kept expanding the definition of harm until they shut down the rights of their political opponents.

Anyone who’s watched partisan groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center, who accuse civil rights lawyers of being in a “hate group,” understands where this goes.

Actually, you can see where it’s going by checking out Europe. Dismiss slippery slope arguments if you like, but in Germany, where “hate speech” has been banned, police have raided the homes of at least 36 people accused of posting “illegal content.” There is a proposed bill right now in Germany that would fine social media companies millions of dollars for failure to remove hate speech within 24 hours. When debates about immigration are at the forefront in Germany, the threat to abuse these laws is great.

It's that time again! "California Woman Sues..."

I haven't done this in quite some time.  I noticed over the years that women in California feel empowered to sue....anyone and everyone.  I'm not sure why that is.  Some are hilarious.  Some are quite sad.  But, here's the round up:

"California woman sues Jelly Belly Candy claiming beans were full of sugar"

"Irvine woman sues Albertsons after clerk wrongly assumes she’s on food stamps"

"California woman sues candy company over movie-theater Mike and Ike box"

"Woman pepper-sprayed at UC Berkeley protest sues university, police"

"Woman Files Lawsuit Against LAPD, Claiming Wrongful Arrest"

"Woman who contracted botulism in California sues nacho cheese-dip maker"

"Woman sues, says she tripped on Haymarket pedestrian bridge"

"California Woman Sues Chipotle for $2.2 Billion Over Using Her Photograph"

"After holes form on rear of $25 leggings, fed-up woman sues LuLaRoe"

"Sexual assault victim sues local hotel, victim claims hotel gave stranger her room key"

ILLINOIS: Watch....and learn

I've been watching the situation in Illinois for a number of years.  I haven't posted anything on it for a few years.  I had posted many articles since about 2011 or so.  It might be good to go back and read what I posted back then:

Go here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here.

In 2015 I stated "I give Illinois three years.  Tops."

Looks like I was a bit optimistic.

The Coyote Joke: California vs Texas

I wish I had come up with this...

CALIFORNIA: The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out, bites the Governor and attacks his dog.

You can imagine how different the outcomes would be between CA and TX!!

Canada's walk down the Dark Road

I was wondering when we would start seeing this kind of thing.  Canada has had hate speech laws on the books for some time.  But it's getting real.

Wild Bill for America, also known as William Finlay, a popular author and speaker, was arrested today, June 24, 2017, at a Canadian airport for “smuggling hate speech” on his iPad. He was invited to speak at an event at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza called the “Patriotic Unity Mega Festival” coordinated by Cananda’s Worldwide Coaliation Against Islam (WCAI) which also has organizations in Europe and Australia.
Who's next?  What's next?  Will Canadian Border Patrol agents start going through everyone's laptop or tablet looking for "hate speech"?

Another Left-Wing Science Scandal

I always thought the war against glyphosate was probably all smoke.  And I was right.
As a bonus, glyphosate was remarkably benign from an environmental standpoint. In general, insecticides are toxic to humans because humans are quite a bit like bugs. Herbicides, on the other hand, are generally not very toxic to humans, because we aren’t a lot like plants. But even in this context, glyphosate stood out as a harmless chemical. It targets an enzyme that is found in plants, but not in humans or animals. Moreover, glyphosate breaks down easily and does not persist in the environment. It is pretty much the perfect herbicide (until resistance starts to develop, but that’s another story).

This sounds like a win-win situation–cheaper food, better health, longer lifespans–but some people irrationally hate genetically modified crops, even though the modification–in this case, making the corn or soybean plant tolerant of glyphosate–has nothing to do with its nutritional value. After decades of world-wide experience with glyphosate, it was accepted that the product was safe. So it was a bombshell when the International Agency for Research on Cancer declared, in March 2015, that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic,” based on tests on rodents.

Hundreds of cancer patients promptly sued Monsanto, claiming the company had concealed the danger of carcinogenicity, notwithstanding the fact that it would be hard to find a farmer who hadn’t been exposed to glyphosate. The European Union said it would consider IARC’s finding when deciding whether to continue to allow glyphosate to be used in Europe. “Environmentalists” had scored a major coup.

But the whole thing turned out to be a fraud. Reuters has investigated, aided by access to deposition testimony in one or more of the lawsuits against Monsanto, which evidently was not subject to a protective order. Briefly put, the author of the IARC’s carcinogenicity study, Aaron Blair, an epidemiologist from the U.S. National Cancer Institute, covered up his own research showing that exposure to glyphosate did not lead to a higher incidence of cancer in humans. The story, as reported by Reuters, is astonishing:

Previously unreported court documents reviewed by Reuters from an ongoing U.S. legal case against Monsanto show that Blair knew the unpublished research found no evidence of a link between glyphosate and cancer. In a sworn deposition given in March this year in connection with the case, Blair also said the data would have altered IARC’s analysis.

GE's $31 Billion Hangover: Immelt Leaves Behind Big Unfunded Tab

The beginning of the end of America's greatest company.
It’s a problem that Jeffrey Immelt largely ignored as he tried to appease General Electric Co.’s most vocal shareholders.

But it might end up being one of the costliest for John Flannery, GE’s newly anointed CEO, to fix.

At $31 billion, GE’s pension shortfall is the biggest among S&P 500 companies and 50% greater than any other corporation in the U.S. It’s a deficit that has swelled in recent years as Immelt spent more than $45 billion on share buybacks to win over Wall Street and pacify activists like Nelson Peltz.

Part of it has to do with the paltry returns that have plagued pensions across corporate America as ultra-low interest rates prevailed in the aftermath of the financial crisis. But perhaps more importantly, GE’s dilemma underscores deeper concerns about modern capitalism’s all-consuming focus on immediate results, which some suggest is short-sighted and could ultimately leave everyone -- including shareholders themselves -- worse off.
This is really, really bad.  Almost half a million people are covered under GE's pension.  When this falls, it will fall HARD.

And it wasn't just a few months ago there was news all over the place that GE was a good buy.

A "good-bye" is probably a better way of putting it.

State Farm plans to close Bakersfield operations center by 2021

Looks like they are using the process of attrition to slowly de-staff and move the functions to other states.
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company announced Thursday plans to exit eleven facilities in stages over the course of several years, beginning next year.

That includes the State Farm Operations Center in Bakersfield located at 900 Old River Road.

According to a news release, the company plans to close the Bakersfield location in 2021.

The work from these facilities will move to the company's headquarters in Bloomington, Ill., its offices in Atlanta, Dallas, and Phoenix, as well as a number of existing locations across the U.S.

Bakersfield employees will have opportunities to relocate with the jobs, according to a spokesman.

Lockheed Martin to move missile jobs from California to Florida

Good.  I own a handful of shares of LMT.  Do it.

Lockheed Martin Corp. plans to move about 300 ballistic missile program jobs from California to Florida's Space Coast over the next two years.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co. spokesman Matt Kramer told Florida Today that the employees moving to Brevard County will work on testing and maintenance for the Navy's Trident II D-5 Fleet Ballistic Missile.

California Cover Up–Billions to Prop Up Collapsing Pension System

How do they think this is all going to end?

Politicians keep looking for an easy way to address pensions but that path was closed a decade ago when the state chose not to lower investment return assumptions to reasonable levels and boost Normal Cost contributions. It was easy then but because Unfunded Liabilities compound at high rates, the balances due now are huge and growing. The only paths that seriously move the needle are boosted taxes, reduced services, or reduced future pension benefits for current employees and retirees. The first two paths have already been trod with three tax increases since 2009 and reduced shares of the budget for universities, courts, parks and social services. The third path has not even been approached. Current employees and retirees benefitted from keeping Normal Cost unfairly low. It’s time for them to share in the pain being suffered by citizens.
Yea, and it's a shame it has to come to this.  A LOT OF PEOPLE will be impoverished.

The Arrogance of Blue America

I'm not sure how or exactly when it happened.  I suspect it started during the Vietnam War when the Left who were voted into office caused the death of untold numbers of South Vietnamese.  They were voted into office to get us out of the unpopular Vietnam War.  But the slow trickle in of more and more Leftists (as opposed to the classical liberal) slowly morphed the Democratic Party into the evil disgusting American-Hating group that they are.

This opened the door even wider allowing more Leftists/Socialists to be voted into office.  I knew 30 years ago the Left didn't give a fig about the poor. Only the Right cares.  The Right wants ALL GROUPS of people to flourish.

But, for the Left, it's all about Idiology.  IF you don't are dead.  You are not human. That's the level of hatred and digust they have for "unbelievers".

From the Daily Beast:
Ironically, many of the most exploited people reside in blue states and cities. Both segregation and impoverishment has worsened during the decades-long urban “comeback,” as even longtime urban enthusiast Richard Florida now notes. Chicago, with its soaring crime rates and middle class out-migration, amidst a wave of elite corporate relocations, epitomizes the increasingly unequal tenor of blue societies.

In contrast the most egalitarian places, like Utah, tend to be largely Trump-friendly. Among the 10 states (and D.C.) with the most income inequality, seven supported Clinton in 2016, while seven of the 10 most equal states supported Trump.

If you want to see worst impacts of blue policies, go to those red regions—like upstate New York—controlled by the blue bourgeoise. Backwaters like these tend to be treated at best as a recreational colony that otherwise can depopulate, deindustrialize, and in general fall apart. In California, much of the poorer interior is being left to rot by policies imposed by a Bay Area regime hostile to suburban development, industrial growth, and large scale agriculture. Policies that boost energy prices 50 percent above neighboring states are more deeply felt in regions that compete with Texas or Arizona and are also far more dependent on air conditioning than affluent, temperate San Francisco or Malibu. Six of the 10 highest unemployment rates among the country’s metropolitan areas are in the state’s interior.

CO2 fertilization greening the Earth

This is not my first article on the wonderful benefits of CO2 increases.

This one is from
"We were able to tie the greening largely to the fertilizing effect of rising atmospheric CO2 concentration by tasking several computer models to mimic plant growth observed in the satellite data," says co-author Prof. Ranga Myneni of the Department of Earth and Environment at Boston University, USA. Burning oil, gas, coal and wood for energy releases CO2 in to the air. The amount of CO2 in the air has been increasing since the industrial age and currently stands at a level not seen in at least half-a-million years. It is the chief culprit of climate change.

I love that shot - most likely added by the brainwashed editor -  "chief culprit".  Loser.

What in the World Is Causing the Retail Meltdown of 2017?

I don't think I do any more online shopping than I did in 2010.  It could be that others are finally reaching my level of purchasing.  We still do a good bit of shopping in stores.  So, I don't think they will all disappear.

The article goes over several reasons for falling retail sales.  I think most of them people are already aware of.  But their prediction about the future is interesting:

From the Atlantic:
Finally, a brief prediction. One of the mistakes people make when thinking about the future is to think that they are watching the final act of the play. Mobile shopping might be the most transformative force in retail—today. But self-driving cars could change retail as much as smartphones.

Once autonomous vehicles are cheap, safe, and plentiful, retail and logistics companies could buy up millions, seeing that cars can be stores and streets are the ultimate real estate. In fact, self-driving cars could make shopping space nearly obsolete in some areas. CVS could have hundreds of self-driving minivans stocked with merchandise roving the suburbs all day and night, ready to be summoned to somebody’s home by smartphone. A new luxury-watch brand in 2025 might not spring for an Upper East Side storefront, but maybe its autonomous showroom vehicle could circle the neighborhood, waiting to be summoned to the doorstep of a tony apartment building. Autonomous retail will create new conveniences and traffic headaches, require new regulations, and inspire new business strategies that could take even more businesses out of commercial real estate. The future of retail could be even weirder yet.
Well if that's the case, they better be built like vaults, dispensing purchased items.  Because I think thieves will be watching for the self-driven vehicles to make a killing.

Clemson ‘Diversity’ Training: Time Is Culturally Relative, Expecting Promptness Is Racist

This is not the Clemson college I remember.  It makes me wonder how far off the deep end my alama mater South Carolina has dived.

In one slide, employees are taught that tardiness is acceptable because the concept of time is culturally relative. Thus, every culture’s perception of the actual time must be respected - since one “cultural perspective regarding time is neither more nor less valid than any other.”

The slide gives the example of “Alejandro,” who called a 9:00 AM meeting, and teaches that he should not rebuke a group of foreign professors and students who show up late:

“Time may be considered precise or fluid depending on the culture.”

Thus, the slide teaches, Alejandro shouldn’t impose his definition of time on others, because “his cultural perspective regarding time is neither more nor less valid than any other."

The more incredibly stupid thing I've ever read.

How I Made My Own iPhone - in China

This video shows a world of life that is totally foreign to us.  When we think of street markets, we think of food or tourist stuff.  We NEVER think of street markets selling electronic parts like we see in China.

That is because, this was kept from us.  And most markets like these are OUTLAWED and BANNED in large US cities. Which is ANTI-CAPITALIST.  Laser etching on a street corner????  Ever see that in the USA??  NEVER!!  There is really something wrong in our nation.

An amazing video.

California High School Replaces Mirrors in Girls’ Bathroom With Positive Message Signs

What complete BS.  Just more coddling and dumbing down our kids.  We are in such trouble. We will not be able to compete with other countries for business.  We'll be too busy crying because out feelings are hurt!
A high school in California has replaced all the mirrors in its girls' bathroom with positive signs that say messages like "You're strong enough" and "You are beautiful."

Laguna Hills High School student Sabrina Astle, 17, a member of the Kindess Club, came up with the idea to have students read happy thoughts rather than look at their own reflections. She made the posters for the school's "What If …" Week, ABC News reported Tuesday.

"Then we had What if … Week," she said, which is designed to bring the campus together. "Each day has a specific message. The message for Thursday, March 23, 2017, was ‘What if we showed more love?'

"I felt that this would be a good time to hang the signs. I put the signs in the bathroom the night before so students would see them throughout the next day," she said.
Makes me want to hurl...

The Burgeoning Market For Anti-Trump Hoaxes

The hysteria on the Left is just off the scale.  There is no sense in what they do and absolutely no discernment.

As BuzzFeed, which reported on the scam, noted: "Opportunists have begun dangling would-be smoking guns — sometimes for a price — in front of journalists, amateur sleuths, and deep-pocketed political activists so eager to damage the Trump presidency that they can be blind to red flags."

Blind is right. Since Trump has been elected, reporters have repeatedly fallen for damaging stories that turned out to be wildly misleading or outright false. BuzzFeed itself published an unsubstantiated dossier that claimed a Russian plot to blackmail Trump. But there have been many others.

There was the University of Michigan student who claimed to have been attacked by a Trump supporter. The University of Louisiana student who said she had her hijab ripped off. The Iraqi mom who died because of Trump's visa ban. Trump's Photoshopping of a picture taken on the day of his inauguration to make his hand look bigger. All hoaxes.

Then there was the story about how a Russian bank supposedly had been in contact with an email server in the Trump Organization. Now it appears the communications might have been part of a hacker hoax that originated inside the U.S.

California exports its poor to Texas, other states, while wealthier people move in

Immoral and disgusting, that's what the state of CA is.  Now, the poor are leaving the state.  I have advocated for years that the poor should get out while they could.  Now....they are.
Kiril Kundurazieff, 56, is among the low-income residents who left California. He spent more than a decade working in a small bookstore, then at Target, then at a Verizon call center, in Southern California. After some medical issues that hampered his eyesight, he found himself unemployed in Santa Ana, with monthly rent of about $1,000 in 2012.

“There was really nothing left for me in California,” said Kundurazieff, who also writes a blog about his cats. “The cost of living was high. The rent was high. The job market was debatable.”

Friends in Texas suggested he relocate. He now works at a Walmart in Houston, making a little north of $10 an hour. He works 40 hours a week, riding his bike about 7 miles to work many days. He does not pay state income tax. His rent is just over $500, with utilities.

About the same time that Kundurazieff was leaving, Tamara and Kit Keane were arriving from Oklahoma. Both had been working on their doctorate degrees at Oklahoma universities, Kit in biology and Tamara in education.

Burger-flipping robot has its first day on the job in California

From MSN:
Self-ordering kiosks are already replacing workers at fast food chains like McDonald's and Wendys. But, Miso Robotics said Flippy is designed to work alongside human staff. Once its "probation" ends in Pasadena, it will roll out to more than 50 CaliBurger locations over the next two years. When that happens, some people could be reassigned to the dining room to engage more with customers, while others will be trained to operate their new assistant.

"Tasting food and creating recipes will always be the purview of a chef," Zito recently told TechCrunch. "And restaurants are gathering places where we go to interact with each other. Humans will always play a very critical role in the hospitality side of the business given the social aspects of food. We just don't know what the new roles will be yet in the industry."

"Some" people will be reassigned to the dining room..."  What a lie.  There will only be one worker.

The chef.

Here's a syrupy sweet video of everyone loving "flippy".  Everyone is full of smiles.

The chef?  Oh, yeah...that.  The "chef" has been redifined as the one guy that places cheese on the burgers.  God forbid the "chef" do any real "cheffing".

Why California cities and counties should act scared by pension payments

From the Sacbee:
It’s the legacy of overly generous promises, notably a legislative giveaway to public employee unions by Gov. Gray Davis in 1999, plus the fallout from the December vote by the California Public Employees’ Retirement System board to cut the “discount rate” – its long-term projection of investment returns – from 7.5 percent to 7 percent. It will be phased in, starting in 2018-19.

For Sacramento, the higher pension contributions make up the vast majority of projected deficits that by 2022-23 could rival those during the Great Recession that forced layoffs and major cuts in city services, including public safety and parks.

There’s time to avoid painful budget cuts, but only by belt-tightening now. That’s even more crucial because the City Council went on something of a spending spree last year, before the CalPERS action.

Those budget projections assume that voters renew the Measure U half-cent sales tax, which now brings in more than $40 million a year and is set to expire in March 2019. The numbers also include about $5 million more a year, mostly in property taxes generated in part by the development around Golden 1 Center.
And it was just  0.5 per cent lowering of expectations. What would happen if this were to be lowered by 1%?  2%?  6%?

‘Literacy’ test for teachers may be nixed

We can file this under "Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations"
State education officials plan to scrap a literacy exam given to prospective teachers and allow certification for some applicants who fail a performance assessment test — moves that critics warned will weaken the pool of candidates.

The state Board of Regents will likely vote early next week on whether to ax the Academic Literacy Skills Test, one of four exams that teacher wannabes have to pass for certification, officials said Monday.

The Regents will also consider changes to one of the other three prerequisite exams for would-be educators, the Teacher Performance Assessment, or edTPA.

Under that proposal, applicants who just barely fail the edTPA could still be certified based on other factors, including teacher recommendations.

Sources said the moves will likely be approved, leading to outcry from those who believe they are important assessment tools.

“It’s alarming because we’ve now abandoned or watered down the teacher evaluation process, and now we’re lowering the bar for entry certification as well,” said Charles Sahm, director of education policy at the Manhattan Institute.

The literacy test has been accused of skewing against minorities and being redundant — but Sahm called it an important tool in bringing in qualified candidates.
Yes, you see, it's impossible for blacks and hispanics to rise to the level of Asians and Whites because of all the RACISM!!!

This is a horrific time for minorities.

Academics swapped gender of Trump, Clinton for restaged presidential debate and the results surprised them

This is AMAZING!  But that was not my first impression.  My first impression was  these people were nuts and it all sounded like a whacko scheme only a Left Winger would come up with. it turned out, the results stunned everyone one - especially me.  It told me that Trump's message transcended gender.

We heard a lot of “now I understand how this happened”—meaning how Trump won the election. People got upset. There was a guy two rows in front of me who was literally holding his head in his hands, and the person with him was rubbing his back. The simplicity of Trump’s message became easier for people to hear when it was coming from a woman—that was a theme. One person said, “I’m just so struck by how precise Trump’s technique is.” Another—a musical theater composer, actually—said that Trump created “hummable lyrics,” while Clinton talked a lot, and everything she was was true and factual, but there was no “hook” to it. Another theme was about not liking either candidate—you know, “I wouldn’t vote for either one.” Someone said that Jonathan Gordon [the male Hillary Clinton] was “really punchable” because of all the smiling. And a lot of people were just very surprised by the way it upended their expectations about what they thought they would feel or experience. There was someone who described Brenda King [the female Donald Trump] as his Jewish aunt who would take care of him, even though he might not like his aunt. Someone else described her as the middle school principal who you don’t like, but you know is doing good things for you.
Here is a youtube video of the rehearsal:

Emirati brothers shock scientists with breakthrough invention

If all it did was enable a better battery, that alone would be life changing.  But beyond that is incredible!

Two young Emirati brothers and a UAE based American nuclear chemist have developed what could be the-next-big-thing in science, which they claim: “Has the potential to change the world of technology, as we know it.”

Mohammed Al Fahim, 29, his younger brother Rashed, 24, and Dr Larry A Burchfield, 65, have always had a long passion for science.

However, in the world of physics and chemistry, one truly needs to think outside the box to discover something astonishingly groundbreaking and potentially change the lives of millions, if not billions of people - the Al Fahims and Dr Burchfield done just that, right here in Abu Dhabi.

In an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times, the team shared how they recently invented a brand a new class of carbon allotropes, which Moahmmed Al Fahim dubbed as ‘Novamene.’

“We were not allowed to speak about this discovery until recently when international scientists, professors, global research journals and lab tests confirmed our invention.”

“Novamene has the potential applications for transistors and other electronic components and could rival graphene as the next wonder martial for use in technology and energy,” added Mohammed.

Connecticut Ranked As State With Worst Fiscal Status – Second Only To Puerto Rico

This really was a shocker....but I guess I should have just looked at the party make up.  That tells the story.
A new study from George Mason University’s Mercatus Center finds that Connecticut ranks as the state in the worst fiscal condition – second only to Puerto Rico, which has amassed $70 billion in debt due to out-of-control government spending coupled with interference from Washington, D.C.

Connecticut – led by a Democrat legislature and governor and represented by an entirely Democrat congressional delegation – ranks as dead last among the states, owing largely to its massive debt obligations and unfunded liabilities.

Facebook Suspends Christian Homeschool Mom's Account Over Posts Citing Bible on Homosexuality

This is why I deleted my Facebook account a couple years back.  Hideous.

Elizabeth Johnston, an Ohio homeschooling mother of 10 who runs the popular conservative blog "The Activist Mommy," told The Christian Post on Tuesday that Facebook suspended her account earlier this month because she wrote about how Leviticus condemns homosexuality as "detestable" and an "abomination."

Johnston said the comment in question was posted over six months ago in a long thread of comments that was in response to another Facebook user who claimed that Christians are hypocrites for condemning homosexuality but being willing to eat shellfish and pork.

The post was removed on Feb. 9 and Johnston's public "The Activist Mommy" Facebook page, which has over 76,000 followers, was frozen for a period of three days. She was alerted that her comment on homosexuality was removed because "it doesn't follow the Facebook Community Standards."

"Someone had commented underneath one of my videos and were commenting under the thread and said something about how Old Testament law prohibits the eating of pork — one of the homosexuals' favorite arguments to make. I responded with just scriptural commentary and that is considered 'hate speech' by Facebook," Johnston explained. "It was just very intellectual and it was just a commentary on what the Bible says. There was no name calling or anything like that."

Fuck their "community standards"  She should set up her own web site and tell Zucky-boy to go fuck himself.  She can use Facebook to refer people to her latest articles. I am sick to death of their goddamn "community standards".  Z-boy will never get a dime from me.

Alan Dershowitz: Why I Will Leave the Democratic Party If Ellison Is Elected its Chairman

The DNC has (re)turned into one of the most vile Leftist organizations in the history of this country.
My loyalty to my country and my principles and my heritage exceeds any loyalty to my party. I will urge other like-minded people – centrist liberals – to follow my lead and quit the Democratic Party if Ellison is elected Chairman. We will not be leaving the Democratic Party we have long supported. The Democratic Party will be leaving us!
Yes, they are that bad.

RAW VIDEO: California State Sen. Janet Nguyen Removed From Senate Floor

Oh yeah!  Diversity is our STRENGTH (snark!)!

UMich students demand no-whites-allowed space to plot ‘social justice’ activism

Perfect example of Racist Leftists!!

A student activist group at the University of Michigan is demanding campus officials provide them with “a permanent designated space on central campus for Black students and students of color to organize and do social justice work.”

The demand is one of several lodged by “Students4Justice,” who this month ratcheted up campus demonstrations to pressure administrators to cave, complaining in a newly launched petition that President Mark Schlissel has snubbed their demands.

The clamor for a segregated space for students of color to organize social justice efforts comes even as the public university builds a $10 million center for black students and others in the center of campus.

Judge blocks California law limiting publication of actors' ages

This is the best example of the utterly pathetic mindset of Leftists.

A federal judge has barred the State of California from enforcing a new law limiting online publication of actors' ages.

Acting in a case brought by online movie information website IMDb, U.S. District Court Judge Vince Chhabria ruled Wednesday that the California law likely violates the First Amendment and appears poorly tailored to proponents' stated goal of preventing age discrimination in Hollywood

"Because the government has presented nothing to suggest that [the measure] would actually combat age discrimination [much less that it's necessary to combat age discrimination], there is an exceedingly strong likelihood that IMDb will prevail in this lawsuit," Chhabria wrote in a three-page order.

The judge expressed deep skepticism that the law, which he said appeared to apply only to IMDb, would have any effect on discrimination.

Leftist Implosion: Philadelphia Soda Tax Leads To 30-50% Plunge In Sales, Mass Layoffs

This is my shocked face....

When Philadelphia became the first US city to pass a soda tax last summer, city officials were eagerly looking forward to the surplus-tax funded windfall to plug gaping budget deficits (and, since this is Philadelphia, the occasional embezzlement scheme). Then, one month ago, after the tax went into effect on January 1st we showed the tax applied in practice: a receipt for a 10 pack of flavored water carried a 51% beverage tax. And since PA has a sales tax of 6% and Philly already charges another 2%, the total sales tax was 8%. In other words, a purchase which until last year came to $6.47 had overnight become $9.75.

What happened next? Precisely what most expected would happen: full blown sticker shock, and a collapse in purchases.

According to reports, two months into the city’s sweetened-beverage tax, supermarkets and distributors are reporting a 30% to 50% drop in beverage sales and - adding insult to injury - are now planning for layoffs.

One of the city's largest distributors told the Philadelphia website it would cut 20% of its workforce in March, and an owner of six ShopRite stores in Philadelphia says he expects to shed 300 workers this spring. “People are seeing sales decline larger than anything they’ve seen up to this point in the city,” said Alex Baloga, vice president of external relations at the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association.

Di Leo: Emissions Testing and the Pollution of Big Government

Modern cars run clean consistently.  Emission testing is a waste of time.  Luckily, more and more states/cities are phasing them out.  Shocking, I know.

Emission testing unintentionally targets the poor since they are the least able to afford newer cars that would pass the testing.

From the Illinois Review:
We often talk about ‘regressive’ taxes, burdens that fall unfairly on the poor. This is one of the biggest of such burdens, because it’s precisely the working poor owners of old cars who are hit hardest by the well-intentioned goofiness of emissions testing. Consider:

It’s just a huge waste of time for newer cars, because of course they pass. The number of newer cars that fail are such a statistical minority that the pollution they produce is too little to be worth the bother.

For the old cars that we would expect to fail, the additional cost of bringing them up to code is so onerous on these mostly working-poor car owners, it just puts them further behind. That cost, specifically relative to the budgets of the working-poor in question, is utterly unjustifiable; for people who must count every transportation penny, it often has the effect of causing them to postpone much more important car-related purchases, such as auto insurance, brake repairs, alignments, and other issues that pose genuine safety concerns.

The cost of maintaining this service – all these buildings, public employees, etc. – contribute to the unsustainable government budgets of states like Illinois. This cost drives employers and entrepreneurs out of state, drying up the tax base, necessitating ever-larger collections from an ever-shrinking pool, and again contributing to the reduction of opportunities for the poor and lower middle class to climb upward.

And the timing itself has been insane all along, since the birth of these metropolitan emissions testing centers coincided with the (mandated) popularity of unleaded fuel and the catalytic converter. These advancements already had the country on a successful and fast-moving trend toward cleaner air; the emissions testing center archipelago was, frankly, obsolete almost at its inception! (How do you like that? I buried the lede.)

Shocking rain damage is wakeup call to fix ailing roads, infrastructure, experts say

CA, please hurry up and secede.  That way you can't make us pay for the repairs of your decrepit state!

“I’m not surprised by any of this that is happening right now because we have been delaying maintenance everywhere,” said Hasan Ikhrata, executive director of the Los Angeles-based Southern California Association of Governments.

And former San Bernardino Mayor Patrick Morris quickly drew the same conclusion.

“I guess that’s testimony of the amount of maintenance needed in California,” Morris said by phone.

“When you get rainstorms like we’ve experienced over the last several weeks, suddenly reality sets in,” he said.

Dam crisis is wake-up call for aging California water system

I would consider this the first of many coming disasters that can be laid at the feet of the Leftists who run CA.

Environmentalists said the Oroville Dam crisis was a "wake-up call" for state leaders to fix existing water infrastructure instead of funding new projects, such as a tunnel to divert river water around the San Francisco Bay Delta to consumers in the south.

Billions of dollars are required to improve dam infrastructure in the state, said Adam Scow, California director for environmental group Food & Water Watch. He called for local, state and federal agencies to all pay up.

More than half of California's 1,585 dams would lead to deaths if they failed, putting them in the category of "high hazard potential," according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

US Cases of refugees arrested or convicted on terror charges, and other heinous crimes

I think this post pretty much cements the issue as valid.  I'm putting the=is website on speed-dial:

But, I have to do it (to write this) because clearly the refugee industry has sent out talking points that I am seeing parroted many times each day which pretty much go like this: no refugee has committed an act of terror in the US. LOL! And, maybe that is because many were arrested and convicted BEFORE they could do anything!

And, let me ask you, when evaluating the fact that you (as a taxpayer) paid for a refugee’s opportunity to come to America and in some cases below even paid to raise the refugee to adulthood, does it matter for your anger level that he/she planned to kill Americans or planned to kill some innocents somewhere else in the world? So when the refugee advocates make a distinction about the location of the wannabe jihadist’s target, it’s a difference without a distinction to me!

Here are ten that come to mind:

~The Somali (Mohamed Osman Mohamud) arrested on charges he planned to blow up a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Oregon was a refugee. See here in 2010. He was arrested as he planned to detonate a bomb.

~Mohanad-hammadi Kentucky refugee terrorist Mohanad Hammadi is serving a life sentence. ” Hammadi also admitted to lying on U.S. immigration paperwork about his involvement in Iraqi insurgent operations against American troops.”

~ Two Iraqi refugees were convicted on charges that they helped Al Qaeda in Iraq and may have killed American servicemen there. They lied on their refugee applications. Best coverage of 2011 case here by ABC News. The entire Iraqi flow to America had to be re-screened that year!

~In 2012 Abdullatif Ali Aldosary (an Iraqi refugee) set off a bomb at a Social Security Office in Arizona. Sentenced here.

~As successful asylum seekers, the Boston Bombers were refugees who had benefited from America’s generosity. One of many stories here about the 2012 deadly Boston Marathon attack by the Tsarnaev brothers (Chechens).

~In 2013 Fazliddin Kurbanov was arrested in Idaho and later convicted on terrorism charges. Kurbanov is an Uzbek refugee. See here.
~In early 2016 an Iraqi refugee (Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan) living in Texas was accused of planning to bomb a local popular mall, see story at Newsweek.
~In September 2016, a Somali refugee went on a stabbing spree at a mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Learn more here about Dahir Adan. Knife attacks are signature terror acts for devout Muslims.
~Also in September, the Chelsea bomber, Ahmad Rahimi, was arrested and we learned his family came to the US from Afghanistan and were given asylum. We need to be paying more attention to these asylum seekers since they enter the country completely unscreened and their numbers are on the rise. Story at CNN. Once granted asylum they are given all the same rights and privileges as the refugees we fly in.
~And, we can’t forget the most recent successful attack by Somali refugee slasher, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, at Ohio State, see here.
~For number ten, I’m lumping the dozens of wannabe Somali refugee jihadists (mostly from Minnesota) who have been identified and/or convicted of wanting to leave the country to fight for al-Shabaab or ISIS. See here. Several like those in that recent case, were convicted.
