There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever, that the targeting of the Tea Party by the IRS is the result of orders from the very top of government: BHO.
But we know what will happen. People will fall on their sword to protect him. The buck will stop far short of The O. That is, the other O. Not Oprah.
Lois Lerner, who runs the office overseeing tax exempt organizations, said last Friday that: "We saw a big increase in these kinds of applications."
So, too, did Joseph Grant, a top IRS official who said in response to the inspector general report that the agency experienced a "significant increase ... starting in 2010."
Given the flood of new applications, these officials claim, the IRS simply tried to improve "efficiency and consistency" by automatically screening some for extra review, and in doing so, they inadvertently targeted conservative groups. There's just one problem with this excuse. It's not true.
